Author Description

赫伯特·斯宾塞（Herbert Spencer，1820～1903)，生于英格兰乡村的一个教师世家。小时候父亲经常带着体弱多病的斯宾塞到户外活动。促使他养成了对自然科学知识的浓厚兴趣。斯宾塞并未受过系统的学校教育他7岁入当地小学，13岁时便因健康原因而辍学。辍学回家后，他仍然坚持自学。1837年，17岁的斯宾塞回到自己的母校当了3个月的辅导教师，由此激发了他对教育的兴趣。斯宾塞的《教育论》是教育史上的经典著作，但其著名的家庭教育观念主要体现在《斯宾塞快乐教育书》一书中。斯宾塞的一生荣誉显赫，1871年，担任圣安德鲁斯大学校长；1874年，担任爱丁堡大学校长。成为英国皇家学会会员；1875年。成为罗马皇家林琴科学院院士；1882年，成为那不勒斯皇家学会会员；1883年，成为法兰西研究院通讯院士；1885年。成为巴黎生理心理学学会通讯会员；1889年。成为丹麦皇家科学院院士；1891年。成为比利时皇家科学院院士；1897年，成为剑桥大学科学博士；1903年，成为伦敦大学文学博士。
