Introduction

本书的目的是清晰、全面地向学生介绍理论力学的原理和应用。为实现这个目标，本书在编写过程中汲取了许多从事教学工作的评论家和作者的学生的批评及意见。本书为第12版，与前一版相比多处作了较大改进，希望能为教师和学生带来更大帮助。

新特点基础题在每章例题之后都安排了基础题。通过这些题，可以培养学生对一些基本概念的简单应用能力，使学生掌握处理简单问题的基本技巧，为后续求解一般问题打下良好基础。由于附录已经给出这些问题的全部计算结果和部分解题过程，因此也可将这些题作为延伸性例题。另外，从考试角度，基础题为学生提供了一种非常高效的学习方式。同时，在理论力学考试准备前期，可以通过这些练习复习基础知识。

内容修订本版对书中每一部分内容都进行了仔细核查。为更好地解释概念，对许多章节的材料进行了重新编写。为更加突出一些重要概念的应用，增加和更换了部分例题。

概念题每章结尾处通常安排一些概念题，它们与该章节中的力学原理的应用相关。安排这些分析和设计型问题的目的，是引导学生通过照片所描述的实际生活场景进行思考。在学生做过一些相关类型的练习后，可将概念题留为作业或练习。

附加的照片整本书更新或增加近60幅照片，它们反映了本书讲授的知识在实际生活中的实用性。这些照片一般用于解释如何在现实世界中应用力学原理处理问题。在某些章节，也通过照片展示工程师处理实际问题的基本过程：首先必须建立一个便于分析的理想模型，然后画受力图，最后应用力学原理求解。

新习题在本版中，新增或更新近800道习题，约占习题总量的50%。它们涉及航空航天、石油工程和生物力学等领域。新版的习题总量也比上一版增加近17%。

其他特点除了上面提到的新特点外，现将本书正文的一些其他显著特点叙述如下：

内容组织本版对章节的每一部分都进行了精心组织和安排，包括特定主题的解释、说明性例题和课外习题。每节的主题作为该节副标题，以黑体字形式表示。这样做的目的是为引入每个新定义或概念提供一种结构化方法，同时也方便以后的复习和参考。

章节内容每章开篇都以生活或工程中常见的实例为基础引入和论证一些应用广泛的力学原理。每章章首部分的粗体圆点清单概括了本章的主要内容。

突出受力图画受力图是求解力学问题的关键所在。因此，本书从始至终一直强调“画受力图”的重要性。并且通过特定章节和具体例题详细讲解“画受力图”的步骤和注意事项。同时，通过相关课外习题的训练，使学生熟练掌握“画受力图”的方法步骤。

分析过程本书第1章16节给出力学问题的一般分析过程。它适用于书中所有类型的习题。在后续章节学习中，这一特点给初学者提供了一种在应用理论时可遵循的合理方法。为阐明这种方法的应用，本书的例题也采用上述方法求解。实际上，随着学生对相关原理理解的不断深入和自信心的日渐增强，他们将形成自己的解题过程。

重点这部分主要总结和回顾每节中最重要的概念，并强调这些概念对应用原理求解问题的重要性。

概念的理解本书对各章照片中的力学问题都进行了简化处理，然后应用力学原理求解这些问题。这样更便于阐明原理中一些更重要的概念，解释方程中所涉及术语的物理意义。通过这些简化应用，不仅增强学生对本学科的兴趣和对例题的理解，同时也为学生进一步求解习题奠定了良好基础。

课外习题除基础题和概念性习题外，本书还包括如下类型题：

 画受力图的习题本书的部分章节包含一些介绍性问题，对于问题中的一些特例仅需画受力图便可求解出来。这些习题可使学生清楚“正确画出受力图”对求解任何平衡问题都至关重要。

 一般分析和设计题本书的大部分习题取材于工程实际问题。一些习题来自于工业应用的实际产品。希望通过这些实例，激发学生对理论力学的兴趣，培养将实际物理描述简化为理论模型或符号表示（这些描述更便于应用力学原理）的能力。

 计算机的问题本书精心设计了一些习题，这些习题必须通过一定的数值计算才能得出结论，数值求解过程可在台式计算机或可编程便携计算器上完成。这样做的好处是既能扩展其他方面的数理分析能力，又能有更多精力关注力学原理应用本身。这种类型习题的题号前加了符号“■”作为标记。

新版中的课外习题非常多，具体可分为三类：一类是比较简单的习题，书后附录给出参考答案，题号前没有任何标记；第二类习题的题号前加上圆点（）作为标记，书后附录给出了建议、关键公式和计算结果；最后一类习题的题号前加上星号（*）作为标记，书中没有给出参考答案。

精确性与前一版相比，新版对书中所有文字和习题解答都进行了校核。除作者以外，还有如下人员参与了校核工作：弗吉尼亚理工大学的Scott Hendricks、南佛罗里达大学的Karim Nohra；劳雷尔技术学院综合出版服务部的Kurt Norlin。此外，工程师Kai Beng不仅对本书作出精确评论，同时还给出许多内容改进方面的建议。

内容全套书共分为19章。每章内容安排循序渐近，应用力学原理先处理简单情况，再处理更复杂的情况。

本册为动力学分册，共11章。第9章讨论质点运动学。随后在第10章（力和加速度）、第11章（功和能）、第12章（冲量和动量）中讨论了质点动力学。在复习1中对这4章涉及的质点动力学概念进行了总结，通过该部分学生可以接触和解决很多问题。刚体平面运动部分的内容也采用类似的逻辑次序进行组织：第13章（平面运动学）、第14章（力和加速度）、第15章（功和能）、第16章（冲量和动量），复习2是对这4章内容的总结和复习。

如果时间允许，刚体空间运动的相关内容可以在课内讲解。第17章和第18章分别讨论它的运动学和动力学。如果具备必要的数学基础，第19章（振动）部分可以包含到授课中。某些标有“*”的节，考虑到其已超出基本动力学课程，可以略去不讲。但是要注意，这些材料可以做为学习更高级课程的基本理论时的参考资料。最后，附录A列出了求解相关问题所需要的数学公式，附录B简要复习了矢量分析，附录C回顾了链式法则的应用。

讲授次序的可选择性根据需要，可按如下次序安排第9章到第16章的内容，并不会影响内容的连续性：第9章和第13章（运动学）、第10章和第14章（力和加速度）、第11章和第15章（功和能）、第12章和第16章（冲量和动量）。
