第二，反向培养。为了打破恶性心理循环，理想模式技术可用于培养所需要的个性和情感状态。这一思想建立在瑜伽的经典原则之上，即若问题不能自行解决，那么其对立面一定可以提供解答。一个深受恐惧和焦虑困扰的患者可培养出勇气和胆识；一位充斥着愤懑情绪的人可以发展出怜悯和同情；而一个丧失自我肯定的患者将会逐渐懂得珍爱自己。
理想模式技术与“积极思考”不同，也不意味着咨询师替代患者去积极地直面困难问题，但却对患者的积极思考或直面困难起到最有效的辅助作用。它让我们确信咨询不仅是走进痛苦和消极面，更为我们提供了广阔的视野和重生的机会。
第三，明确总体方向和目标，这是理想模式技术的运用，它适用于大多数的心理咨询后期阶段，特别是当患者迫切要求问题得以解决时。那些遭受痛苦折磨的患者虽无法立即做出潜意识层面的回应，但却可以对疼痛做出快速反应。
根据东方的达摩教义，我们每一个人都有一个理想的生活模式，都有一个隐含在心的蓝图。心理综合咨询也认为，个体在更深层的潜意识中存在某种目的，而通过使用理想模式技术，就可以发现这一点。从积极的意义上来说，达摩代表了患者展现的各个方面的进展，并且是一步一个脚印地实现了对理想模式的理解和认识。这一理想模式不是来自对外在形式的抽象，也不是一个遥不可及、不切实际的目标，而是真实地存于个体之中，因此是可以实现的。
