在我还有两个月就要过35岁生日的时候，和我交往多年的男友却为了一个20多岁的非洲裔法律系学生将我抛弃了！要知道，当时关于单身女人与行星比较的研究刚刚出版。这项研究显示：年过30岁的女人再想走进婚姻殿堂的概率，几乎和被行星撞到一样小！

这之后的几天，我卧床不起，眼睛一动不动地盯着头顶的电扇，思前想后，确定我只有两条路可走：一、在泡热水澡的时候割脉自杀；二、在伊莎兰（Esalen）登记为期一个月的学习班——去加利福尼亚州的大瑟尔（Big Sur）参加一个据说效果如同麦加朝圣的疗伤课。想到我的同屋会因为浴室里的一片狼藉而恨死我，我只得选择伊莎兰。
