《桃花扇》的改编甚至影响了民国以来不少的戏剧创作。田沁鑫认为：“欧阳予倩先生当时怀着强烈的爱国热情改编了这出戏，有着极强的影射和借古讽今意味，后人大都追随并沿袭了这一版本。可以说《桃花扇》曾被各种颜色调和了很长时间，而我们则是想恢复其本真和古朴的原貌。我想我们最多能够整理出七八出，我想用一晚上演完。其实整理出多少都没有关系，关键是如何取舍，如果舍得有意思，相信会是另一番风貌。”田沁鑫所说的恢复《桃花扇》“原貌”，在情节上主要体现在结尾。欧阳予倩版的电影广为流传，结尾是李香君自尽，侯方域降清。事实上，在孔尚任的原作中，结尾是侯、李二人在国破家亡后出家。

Content Description

《桃花扇》是清初作家孔尚任经十余年苦心经营，三易其稿写出的一部传奇剧本，在清圣祖康熙三十八年完成，历来受到读者的好评。共有40出，舞台上常演的有《访翠》、《寄扇》、《沉江》等几折。通过男女主人公侯方域（朝宗）和李香君的爱情故事反映明末南明灭亡的历史戏剧。所谓“借离合之情，写兴亡之感，实事实人，有凭有据。”当时清初正是考据学极盛时期，影响了作者忠于历史的态度，剧本中绝大部分人物是真人真事，剧本所写的一年中重大历史事件甚至考证精确到某月某日，但由于并不是历史书籍，剧中加入故事情节，人物感情刻画，从深度和广度反映现实，并且有很高的艺术表现力，是一部对后来影响很深的历史剧。

孔尚任(1648-1718)，清初诗人、戏曲作家。字聘之，又字季重，号东塘、岸堂，又号云亭山人。曲阜（今属山东）人，为孔子64代孙。存世诗文作品有《石门山集》、《湖海集》、《长留集》、《享金簿》、《人瑞录》等，近人汇为《孔尚任诗文集》。戏剧作品皆存，《桃花扇》有康熙刻本、兰雪堂本、西园本、暖红室本、梁启超注本。近有人民文学出版社王季思、苏寰中合注本。
