Book Abstract

走马山纹面羽斯特兰城的巡城官，白鸟团第一副团长哈斯·克鲁·艾格瑞特极其讨厌这种湿漉漉的天气，他简直烦透了。在最近的一段时间里，他的全部生活都在与他为敌。除了他之外，澜州羽族第二大城邦的所有首脑，也就是纹面羽的所有高层人士，已经统统赶往北澜州的神木园，参加五十年一度的泰格里斯神光辉典。他们甚至可以看到泰格里斯天圣女的光芒之舞！据说在整个典礼的高潮时候，天圣女三天三夜不停的光芒之舞最终会照亮整个北澜州的天空，让日月星辰都黯然失色。可是他，纹面羽的第五号人物，艾格瑞特家族克鲁系的正宗继承人，却一个人孤零零地守在空旷阴冷的高塔中，看着窗外绵延不绝的淫雨，悲慨人生。
窗外的细雨让人心烦意乱，但他宁愿把头探出窗户，永远不缩回来。他面前桌上有堆积如山处理不完的公文，各式的纸张上涂抹着各种不同颜色的笔迹，散发出桦树、花椒树、杨树以及龙爪树的味道，内容也五花八门，应有尽有。他素不知道，城市的政务官原来是这么可怕的差事，只代理了八天，他就已经接近崩溃的边缘。
这些天最让人头疼欲裂的问题，是城市污水处理系统重建工程。他的代理政务官生涯开始不到三天，西澜州走马山地区就遭逢一场特大暴雨。这场暴雨对整个斯特兰城周边地区的农业和交通状况都造成了极其恶劣的影响，但最为可怕的后果是：城市污水处理系统遭到了严重的破坏。据不完全统计，全城共有四十二处下水道淤塞，十九处被冲毁，毫不夸张地说，斯特兰城的污水处理系统已经完全瘫痪，而城市卫生状况也因此大受影响，市民生活质量严重下降。在斯特兰城这样一个推崇自由的城邦，民意的力量绝对不能忽视。现在他面前的信件中，三分之一是市民寄来的措辞强硬的抗议信。不过他目前也无计可施，重建工程需要大量的人力、物力和资金，做为一个权力有限的代理政务官，他没有办法在短时间内调集足够的行政资源，开始大规模重建工程。但他也不能无所作为，那样的话，民愤积聚，事态可能会演化到无法收拾的地步。所以他～边派遣城市环卫和建设机构的人员，在各处下水道口装模作样或者零敲碎打地开工，一边躲在斯特兰塔中，处理各种各样的抗议信。
当然，除了抗议信，还有许多其他种类的公私信函，其中他唯一稍微感点兴趣的是求爱信。其实他处理信件的一半以上精力和时间都花在阅读求爱信上。这是轻车熟路的活计，自从成年礼之后，英俊的副团长大人每天都会收到数量不等的求爱信，以及一些思春少女寄来的奇怪的小礼物——当然了，也有少妇寄来的，只是他从来不予理会。心情好的时候，他会拣几封纸张质量较好、气味也比较芬芳的求爱信，给予最简洁的回复——哈斯·克鲁·艾格瑞特副团长是个粗人，他看不懂其中的文采高下。
在翻拣求爱信的时候，他突然在纸堆里找到一封样式独特的信件，淡黄色的桑皮纸封面，角落处火漆鲜红。他拿起信封闻了闻，味道很淡，而且没有特定树种的气息——这是中州人大规模造纸业的产物。他警觉地看了看封面，那上面用通用语和羽族语两种文字工工整整地书写着：永恒王朝斯特兰城白鸟武士团团长大人启。落款是：菸阳陆。
对于古老而优雅的羽族文字，副团长大人其实一窍不通，他唯～能掌握的就是自己名字的拼写；当然了，对于简洁明了的通用语，他的研究也不是很深。艾格瑞特家族的族姓在通用语里应该是“经”，而与中州人打交道的时候，他的名字应该叫做经夏。幸好，信件的内容完全以通用语写就，创去繁文缛节寒暄客套，内容只有—点：
艾格瑞特王家白鸟武士团有史以来最大的一笔采购——一千匹北陆马将于本月底到货，负责押运的则是马商从菸阳路护团聘请的—百二十名路护，都是骑手。
哈斯觉得很振奋。白鸟团纹面骑兵的实力即将得到极大的补充，而他正是这三千锐骑的直接统领。澜州羽族十大城邦中，纹面羽的斯特兰城是唯一拥有骑兵的，甚至在秋叶城的青羽眼中，骑兵本身就是离经叛道的产物，它代表着羽人离开了世代繁衍的森林，走向无遮无拦的平原。“那些腐朽的脑袋，就该烂死在夜沼腐臭的水草里。”哈斯不屑地想道。菸阳路护团，一百二十名骑兵，这是哈斯从军三十年来第一次见到中州人的骑兵。想到这一点，他的心中就有些不安的躁动，还有点隐隐的兴奋。

Introduction

小时候我很喜欢听故事，唱片评书，小说连播，什么都行。我也喜欢讲故事，放学时候总是被批评“破坏路队队形”，因为讲的那些胡编乱造的故事把小朋友们吸引到了身边。
“如果讲故事是一个真正的职业，那我想做一个讲故事的人。”如此幼稚的想法，只能出现在小朋友的头脑中吧？
真正的职业有两个意思：其一是讲故事这个劳动能够供养得起讲故事的人（及其家庭）的生活；其二则是，这是一个职业，所以需要每天重复不断地来做这件事情。第一点在现在的中国是困难的，郭敬明说“青春是一门好生意”，然后他的印数就超过了《邓小平文选》，但郭敬明毕竟只有一个，绝大部分想讲故事的人都很难靠这个劳动来满足自己（及家庭）的温饱；第二点则在任何时候都是困难的，我想任何创造性的工作都经不起这样的磨砺，韩寒曾经批评过作家领工资，我想那是因为他年轻，对于讲故事需要生活积累这件事的迫切感不强。实际上这是一个悖论，因为讲故事也需要投资，当然作家们不用考虑投资回报率，所以大多数变成了蛀虫。
扯远了，小朋友的想法之所以幼稚，是因为如果我们仔细想想上述的两层意思，会发现这与讲故事本身是矛盾的，讲故事的核心在于一个故事和一个讲述的欲望。从这个角度来说，我觉得塔巴塔巴应该是一个喜欢讲故事的人。
想不起来第一次看见塔巴塔巴的文字是一个什么样的情形，但在九州论坛上众多稚嫩的讲故事尝试中，一眼看见他并不是什么困难的事情。从开始我就觉得塔巴塔巴很有前途，现在我也还是觉得他很有前途。很有前途的意思就是说，现在没有到达前途……塔巴塔巴的文字，在这本《澜州战争》中表现得很充分：语言是成熟的，但本身没有经过充分雕琢，很容易让人联想到那些译文小说故事：故事的情节是流畅的，但没有层层复复的编织托引，常常是到了爆发的边缘就戛然而止了。刻薄一点说，如果随便从塔巴塔巴文章中拉出一小段来混在其他作者的故事里，只怕也看不出多少区别，但如果是打开故事一路读下来，会觉得自己的情绪跟着塔巴塔巴的思路在流转，甚至往往在结尾时候的收束处产生失重感一—意犹未尽大概就是这个意思。我以为塔巴塔巴的故事“有气”，也就是这个原因。“文贵有气”的这个“气”字其实模糊得很，如果一定要推导—吓，大概还是跟讲故事的欲望有关。塔巴塔巴拥有讲故事的欲望，并且同时拥有一些故事，这就是“有气”的渊源了。
我们创造九州的时候曾经希望这是一个多人合作的平台，那时候我们没有经验，不知道这里面竟然有这样大的陷阱。回头再看，这样的一个平台很难做得开放，戴着镣铐跳舞是合适的描述。后期的作者想要融合进这个平台，除了讲故事的能力之外，更多需要的还是热爱和意愿吧，相当不容易。任何一个后期作者，想要打开局面都必须在铁栏以内建筑自己的小世界，所以有了杉右，有了褐霜，有了海潮。而在塔巴塔巴的描述里，我们看到的是相对更为完整的一个小世界：斯特兰城，纹面羽，白乌团……—直以来，看似庞大的九州拥有的是一些粗疏的铁栏。这些铁栏足以将没有准备的作者隔在九州之外，却不能塑造出多少完整细致的世界。塔巴塔巴的《澜州战争》，和以往的《南药的雪》、《清人》一样，一以贯之地绘制着澜州羽族和他们的华族邻居的画卷。一个一个的故事，正在组成越来越大的故事，这便是讲故事吧？
我想讲故事如果是一个真正的职业，塔巴塔巴多半不会成为一个讲故事的人。他太过随意，没有办法跟着职业的指挥棒。但好在从事这个职业的人都有了其他闪闪发亮的头衔，比如著名作家，或者出版人。所以塔巴塔巴仍然是一个讲故事的人，跟着他平淡清明有时候甚至懒散的笔触，我们会走进他的故事里面去。那里面有城池和山林，战争和爱情，有伸手可以触及的九州。
