每个人都在讨论领导力,但几乎没有人能真正明白它。很多人都渴望拥有它,但只有少数人能够如愿以偿。在我的记忆中,对领导力的定义和描述至少有50种。那么,我们所说的如此耐人寻味的“领导力”到底是什么呢?

也许是因为我们中的很多人都渴望成为领导者,所以才会如此热衷地试着给“领导力”下定义。也许是因为结识了某位领导者, 我们便试图“模仿复制”他们的行为并作为一种人格特质来描述领导力。对于“领导力”的定义,你所得到的答案都是见仁见智的。在过去的50年里,通过观察我的家族领导力以及总结自己领导潜能的发展经验,我得出的结论是:领导力即是影响力。仅此而已,恰如其分。我最喜欢的领导力谚语是:一个自以为在带领他人却无人跟随的人,终究只能独行。

近日,培训公司的詹姆斯·乔治斯(James C.Georges)在《联络执行》(Executive Communications)节目的采访中所述的观点非常正确:

什么是领导力?若暂且忽略其背后所含的道德问题, 仅有一个定义,领导力就是拥有追随者的能力。

吉姆·琼斯(Jim Jones)、耶稣(Jesus of Nazareth)、马丁·路德·金(Martin Luther King)、温斯顿·丘吉尔 (Winston Churchill)和约翰·肯尼迪(John F.Kennedy)都是卓越的领导者。然而他们的价值体系和管理能力却完全不同且各有其追随者。

一旦你明确了领导力的定义是拥有追随者的能力时, 你就要参考这一点弄清楚如何去领导他人、引导他人。

每个人都会影响其他人
