雷风行，福建宁化县人，毕业于北京师范大学教育系。中国作家协会会员，高级编辑，全国百佳新闻工作者，中国纪实文学研究会常务理事，曾任《人民铁道报》副总编辑，《中国旅客报》总编辑。
从大学起就开始在报刊上发表文章与作品。在长期从事报纸编采工作中，撰写通讯、消息、评论、杂文等新闻作品100多万字，刊登在全国20多家报刊上。作品曾十多次获中国新闻奖、中国产业新闻奖、铁路好新闻奖等。
自1982年起相继出版了《郭沫若的少年时代》、《名人的第一任老师》、《片叶集》、《群星从这里升起》、《姓名与人生》、《中国名家读书法》、《伟人与中国铁路》、《解读名人姓名》、《跨越春秋》、《史丰收数字传奇》等20多本书。《名人和他们的老师》、《谜语趣话》分别被国家教委、共青团中央、文化部与全国总工会评为全国性读书活动推荐书目。长篇报告文学《神州大动脉》获中国铁路文学奖。
近年来，雷风行致力于铁路史志研究与写作，策划与编写铁路老照片纪实文学丛书，已出版了《陆平与刘居英兄弟传奇》，《詹天佑之路》是该丛书的又一本新作。

耶鲁大学的优秀毕业生
1878年7月，詹天佑中学毕业后，当年8月考取了美国耶鲁大学雪非尔德理工学院土木工程系铁路工程专业。该系成立于1852年，铁路工程专业是当时最热门的大学专业之一。
耶鲁大学雪非尔德理工学院由著名科学家西理曼创建。学院入学考试严格，学生必须通过包括英文、地理、拉丁文、代数、几何、三角及英国史等多学科考试。詹天佑的同学欧阳赓也被该学院录取，他选学机械工程系。
詹天佑选择铁路工程专业并非偶然。当他12岁出国头一次坐上轮船、火车时，就立下了“今后中国也要有火车、轮船”的誓言。1876年8月容闳带领他参观费城博览会，美国铁路的突飞猛进，给詹天佑留下深刻印象。在容闳的支持下，詹天佑毫不犹豫地选择了铁路工程专业。
18世纪末期，蒸汽机的发明促进了西方第一次工业革命。1825年，世界第一条运营铁路在英国投入使用。中国的仁人志士也争相介绍国外的先进科学技术，中国近代史上伟大的爱国主义者林则徐就是最早介绍铁路知识的中国人。1839年由他主持编译的《四洲志》，介绍了当时外国的铁路、火车等科学技术信息。
19世纪70年代，铁路在西方国家迅猛发展，英、美、法、德的铁路已经分别建成52000、24500、17500、19500公里；而闭关自守的清政府却将铁路拒之于中国国门之外。
就在詹天佑参观博览会的1876年，英国商人在上海修筑了一条14.5公里的吴淞铁路。这是中国历史上第一条营业性铁路，然而也是一条短命的铁路。愚昧落后的清政府视铁路为“西夷淫巧”和“洪水猛兽”，为了表示拒铁路于国门之外的决心，派李鸿章与英国签订了《收赎吴淞铁路条款》，以28.5万两白银赎买回吴淞铁路，于1877年10月将其全部拆毁，钢轨与设备成了一堆废铁。
