Book Abstract

曹丕这一观点的提出，是具有深刻的时代背景的。首先我们要注意，他之所以推重文学，并非像过去一些人那样强调读文的价值，而在于强调著文的价值。这是曹丕以后论文角度一个根本的变化。过去儒家讲文学的社会价值，是让人们读文，以期使人们通过对作品的阅读而获得教化。曹丕则站在作者的立场上，把著文亦即文学创作活动看做是作者达到不朽的途径。而关心和追求不朽，是当时士人们共同的心理倾向。汉末以来，战争频仍，这是我国历史上空前的一次大丧乱。当时军阀混战，攻城掠地，杀人如麻，人的生命在那时不如蝼蚁草芥。董卓曾强迫献帝从洛阳迁都长安，东都洛阳方圆二百里的房屋全部被烧毁，百姓在迁徙中死亡泰半。后来所谓“天下诸侯”共讨董卓，攻进长安后，整个长安又被烧毁，从东都迁徙来的几十万居民，几乎全被杀光，长安成了空城，附近几百里不见人迹。那时军阀攻占城池，都讲究“屠城”：曹操攻下徐州，满城男女老少几十万口，全部杀光。曹仁攻下宛城，也是一杀就是几十万口。而在当时的战乱中，这种屠城的例子几乎比比皆是。再就是瘟疫。古云：大兵之后，必有瘟疫。战争死人多，无法收尸，必然瘟疫传染。《续汉书·五行志》中记载汉末有五次大瘟疫流行；医学家张机在《伤寒论序》中也说，原来他的宗族人数在二百以上，而建安以来不到十年，就死了三分之二。总之，那时的人，不是被杀死，就是病死，整个黄河流域，几成赤地千里。仲长统《昌言》里说：东汉人口到了汉献帝建安年间，减少得非常可怕，“百里绝而无民”，照此下去，人有灭绝的危险。曹操《蒿里行》：“铠甲生虮虱，百姓以死亡。白骨露于野，千里无鸡鸣。生民百余一，念之断人肠。”建安七子之一的王粲有一首有名的《七哀诗》，其中也说：“出门无所见，白骨蔽平原。”曹丕《典论·自叙》：“家家思乱，人人自危。……乡邑望烟而奔，城郭睹尘而溃，百姓死亡，暴骨如莽。”这些都是当时丧乱情况的真实写照。
