《皇马圣经》：
▲传奇的诞生何塞．伯纳乌．伊巴涅斯是一名来自巴伦西亚的律师，而他的妻子安东尼娅．德．耶斯特．努涅斯则是一名古巴人。两个人在相遇后不久便坠入爱河，几年后，他们共结连理，定居在阿尔巴塞特的小城阿尔曼萨。1895年6月8日，他们的第七个儿子圣地亚哥出生了，此前他们已经育有四个儿子和两个女儿，而他们的生活似乎并不会因为这个小男孩的诞生而有什么改变。
何塞对于子女的教育以严格著称，他希望子女们都可以接受到良好的教育。在圣地亚哥的童年时期，何塞就把他送往马德里附近的神学学校进行学。不过小圣地亚哥对于枯燥的学业与神学课程一点儿都不感兴趣，他更喜欢踢足球。起初家人以为圣地亚哥只是贪玩而已，为此小圣地亚哥没少挨父亲何塞的打。但是他仍然我行我素，何塞觉得应该让小圣地亚哥去做自己喜欢的事情，于是就默许了他去踢足球。
恰好圣地亚哥的二哥马塞洛为皇家马德里效力，于是马塞洛就把圣地亚哥带到了马德里。圣地亚哥具有很高的足球天赋，因此他顺利地被选入皇家马德里的青年队。
再后来的故事无须多言了。圣地亚哥·伯纳乌是伯纳乌家族的骄傲，是皇家马德里的真命天子，是世界足坛上一颗璀璨的明珠。没有圣地亚哥。伯纳乌，就没有皇家马德里的今天。
▲最初的队服在今天，白色的球衣几乎成了皇家马德里的象征。不过在最初的时候，皇家马德里的球衣并不是白色的，而是深蓝色的。
1902年4月18日，皇家马德里在官方机构完成注册。经过讨论决定，以深蓝色作为主场队服的颜色，搭配上黑色短裤和球袜。场队服的颜色则为白色，搭配白色的球裤和球袜。深蓝色也是皇家马德里最早队徽的颜色。俱乐部还把球衣的颜色搭配写进了俱乐部的章程之中。
不过在不久之后，皇家马德里的球员发现白色的球衣更为美观，在此后的比赛中，白色的球衣也就逐渐取代了深蓝色球衣，白色不久之后成为皇家马德里球衣的主色调。
第一个主场 1902年，在俱乐部刚刚成立之初，球队的当务之急是赶紧找到一块属于自己的主场。由于球队刚刚成立，在资金上也是捉襟见肘，所以想找到一块心仪而且廉价的土地实属不易。经过多方寻找，最终皇家马德里还是找到了一块合适的地皮。
这块土地由王后玛利亚·克里斯蒂娜①和比亚帕蒂埃尔纳伯爵共同拥有，俱乐部分别以每年125塞塔和150塞塔的价格从这两人手里租赁了这块土地。这块地位于阿尔卡拉大街与斗牛广场大道的交汇处，毗邻太阳门广场，因此还算是一块比较不错的地方。唯一的缺点就是附近的环境并不算太好，每天都有大批马车经过，还有一个垃圾场，一旦到了夏天，就会变得臭气熏天、尘土飞扬。
不管怎么说，俱乐部可算是有了自己的容身之处。工作人员对这块地简单处理了一下，并在周围拉上了一圈铁丝网以防外人随意闯入，皇家马德里的第一个主场就此诞生了。

亚瑟·约翰逊最早是皇家马德里阵中的一名球员，在1902年打进了皇家马德里建队以来的首粒入球。
后来他回到英国学习足球教练课程，在学成后，他再次来到西班牙，开始在皇家马德里出任主教练一职。
在亚瑟·约翰逊执教马德里之前，整个西班牙的足球界可以说是毫无风格与战术体系可言，球员在场上的表现杂乱无章。而亚瑟·约翰逊则结束了这一局面，他将英式足球理念带到了西班牙，并且打造出了适合西班牙球员的战术体系与打法。在皇家马德里，亚瑟·约翰逊以英国人的标准来要求西班牙的球员，这让散漫惯了的西班牙人逐渐变得有纪律性。在长达十年的执教生涯当中，亚瑟·约翰逊帮助球队四次夺得联赛冠军，还夺得过一次全国锦标赛冠军。
▲首秀 1902年，时任西班牙国王的阿尔方索十三世为了促进足球事业在西班牙的发展，决定成立“国王杯”这项赛事，让所有西班牙的球队都在这一赛事中同台竞技。皇家马德里也被邀请参赛，他们首场比赛的对手是巴塞罗那。当时皇家马德里仅仅成立两个多月，而巴塞罗那则已经成立两年多了。
比赛于1902年5月13日进行，英国外援亚瑟·约翰逊打进了球队建队以来的首球。不过皇家马德里并没能取得建队以来的首胜，最终还是经验老到的巴塞罗那更胜一筹，皇家马德里以2：3落败。巴塞罗那杀入决赛，而他们在决赛中以1：2负于毕尔巴鄂竞技。
也许皇家马德里与巴塞罗那的不解之缘在那一刻就已经结下。如今一百多年过去了，沧海桑田，似乎只有皇家马德里与巴塞罗那之间的交锋是永恒不变的。
