梁恒，湖南长沙人，湖南师范大学学士，美国哥伦比亚大学硕士，一九八四年在纽约创办中文季刊《知识份子》，并担任总编辑，同时受著名金融大师索罗斯邀请，出任他的中国事务私人顾问以及在中国的私人代表。现居纽约。

一我家就是你家
1983年2月，我和前妻夏竹丽合著的《革命之子》在美国出版。此书一出，立刻引起了轰动，各大日报、周刊不约而同地为《革命之子》写书评。大小电视台、电台排队采访我。几乎所有的大学，甚至许多中学都邀请我去演讲。去不了的，就让我通过学校的电教视频和学生们交谈，至于各种各样的社会团体和组织的邀请就多彳导数不胜数了。我这个初出茅庐的无名作家，当时就像一匹被人猛踢的脱缰野马，拼命狂奔，累得要死。
1984年年初的一天下午，我接到出版社编辑打来的电话，说《纽约时报周日刊》的总编辑让他转告我，有一位商入看了我的书，通过这位总编辑在找我，没别的，就想见我一面。
商人?我每天够累了，有必要见这位商人吗?何况我从来不认识商人，也从来对商人没有兴趣。
“想见吗?”我的编辑在等我回答。
人家毕竟是看了我的书想见我。此念一生，我回答：“见就见吧，等你通知。”
第二天上午十点，我的编辑来电话，他让我中午十二点半去曼哈顿中城哥伦巴圆形广场的一家法国餐厅和这位商人共进午餐。他说，这家法国餐厅就在这位商人的办公楼下，餐厅最里面有一个包厢是这位商人专用的，进去时告诉领位先生，说
你是乔治·索罗斯先生的客人就可以了。
这么快!我心里犹豫了一下，但还是答应了。我成名后买的第一套西装还在干洗店。穿什么呢?我想，无所谓，不就是一顿饭嘛。于是，我上着深蓝色的毛式制服，下配一条的确凉灰长裤，脚上穿了双中国士兵的绿胶鞋，背上我最喜欢的黄挎包，上面还绣了红色的毛主席头像和“为人民服务”几个字，就这样出门了。
十二点半，我准时到了法国餐厅，对领位先生报了乔治·索罗斯先生的名字。对方惊讶地上下打量我，马上满脸堆笑点点头，把我引到了商人的包厢。
“我是乔治·索罗斯，很高兴见到你。”眼前的这位商人笑着对我说，伸过手来，紧紧握住我的手，坚定有力地摇了几下。

Introduction

二零零九年夏天的一个下午，我和索罗斯最小的儿子格瑞格里在庄园里散步。格瑞格里已经读大学二年级了，还是和小时候一样，调皮捣蛋，在庄园里，不管去什么地方，有门不进，非要翻墙或者从铁丝网里钻进去；有平坦的路不走，偏偏喜欢在路边的灌木丛里穿行。

我们边走边聊，他问我最近在干什么，我说准备写一本书。

他好奇地问："什么书？"

我回答："关于你爸爸和我、和中国的事情。"

他笑着说："听起来像一本回忆录。"

"可能是吧，"我想了想说，"是写对过去的回忆。"

他听了哈哈大笑，说："是啊，你也到了该写回忆录的时候了。"

"你什么意思？"我开玩笑地对他做了一个拳击动作，大声嚷道，"你是笑我已经老了吗？来呀，出拳。"

他耸耸肩膀，朝我挤眉弄眼地笑道："不是吗？你已经不是背着我玩的那个人啦！不过，不要只写我爸爸，也要写我，写我们的家人，以及你和我们在一起的生活。"

这次和格瑞格里的对话，启发了我如何写这本书。格瑞格里说得对，我应该写自己和索罗斯相处的日子，以及和他一家人度过的岁月。自从金融大鳄索罗斯闻名于世以来，已经有很多人写过他是如何挣钱，又是如何花钱做慈善事业的，但还没有一本书是描写他的私人生活。我写的应该是外人所不知道的索罗斯，是我和索罗斯在一起走过的日子。自从一九八三年我的第一本书《革命之子》在美国出版后，我与索罗斯结下了奇缘，一直延续至今。二十多年过去了，时光流淌出许多耐人寻味的美好回忆，我要把它们写出来，为索罗斯，也为我自己。
