Author Description

圣埃克絮佩里，法国作家、飞行员，1900年6月29日生于法国里昂的一个传统的天主教贵族家庭，在他的经典儿童小说《小王子》出版一年后，为祖国披甲对抗纳粹德军。在1944年7月31日执行一次飞行任务时失踪。他以于1943年出版的童话《小王子》（Le Petit Prince）而闻名于世。位于其家乡的里昂圣-埃克苏佩里机场是以他命名的。直到2004年4月，离奇失踪近60年的埃克苏佩里飞机残骸才在法国南部马赛海底附近被寻获。在他逝世50周年时，法国人将他与小王子的形象印在50法国法郎的钞票上。

我六岁那年，在一本描写原始森林的名叫《真实的故事》的书上，看见过一幅精彩的插图，画的是一条蟒蛇在吞吃一头猛兽。我现在把它照样画在上面。
书中写道：“蟒蛇把猎物囫囵吞下，嚼都不嚼。然后它就无法动弹，躺上六个月来消化它们。”
当时，我对丛林里的奇妙景象想得很多，于是我也用彩色铅笔画了我的第一幅画：我的作品1号。它就像这样：我把这幅杰作给大人看，问他们我的图画吓不吓人。
他们回答说：“一顶帽子怎么会吓人呢？”
我画的不是一顶帽子。我画的是一条蟒蛇在消化大象。于是我把蟒蛇肚子的内部画出来，好让这些大人看得明白。他们老是要人给他们解释。我的作品2号是这样的：
那些大人劝我别再画蟒蛇，甭管它是剖开的，还是没剖
开的，全都丢开。他们说，我还是把心思放在地理、历史、算术和语法上好。就这样，我才六岁，就放弃了辉煌的画家生涯。作品1号和作品2号都没成功，我泄了气。那些大人自个儿什么也弄不懂，老要孩子们一遍一遍给他们解释，真烦人。
我只好另外选择一个职业，学会了开飞机。世界各地我差不多都飞过。的确，地理学对我非常有用。我一眼就能认出哪是中国，哪是亚利桑那。要是夜里迷了路，这很有用。
就这样，我这一生中，跟好多严肃的人打过好多交道。我在那些大人中间生活过很长时间。我仔细地观察过他们。观察下来印象并没好多少。
要是碰上一个人，看上去头脑稍许清楚些，我就拿出一直保存着的作品1号，让他试试看。我想知道，他是不是真的能看懂。可是人家总是回答我：“这是一顶帽子。”这时候，我就不跟他说什么蟒蛇啊，原始森林啊，星星啊，都不说了。我就说些他能懂的事情。我跟他说桥，高尔夫，政治，还有领带。于是大人觉得很高兴，认识了这么个通情达理的人。
