纪尧姆·杜瓦尔（Guillaume Duval），法国人，拥有犹太人血统，《选择经济学》杂志（Alternatives economiques）首席作家，曾于20世纪80年代作为驻外工程师在法兰克福的两个德国汽车制造厂工作四年，90年代时在图宾根（Tubingen）从事设备生产。
由于与德国有40多年的密切联系，纪尧姆·杜瓦尔对德国的发展有深刻的认识。他将这种认识分享出来，力图帮助缓解法国人对德国的盲目崇拜。作者认为，由于自身的多方面原因，法国无时无刻不在学习德国的发展模式，德国仿佛给法国指明了一条发展道路。但是，德国的发展不是前任总理施罗德的改革所致，而是有着德国社会的自身原因，这些是法国所不具备的。
