开放是国家繁荣发展的必由之路，是中国基于改革开放成功经验的历史总结，也是拓展经济发展空间、提升开放型经济发展水平的必然要求。尤其在经济全球化的新形势下，世界大国棋局正发生新的变化，这也客观要求中国必须要统筹国内国际两个大局，实行更加积极主动的开放战略，加快构建开放型经济新体制。十八届五中全会提出，“坚持开放发展，必须顺应我国经济深度融入世界经济的趋势，奉行互利共赢的开放战略，发展更高层次的开放型经济，积极参与全球经济治理和公共产品供给，提高我国在全球经济治理中的制度性话语权，构建广泛的利益共同体”。十八届五中全会将“坚持开放发展”这一理念提升到新的战略高度，为中国构建更高水平的开放格局，推动经济持续发展指明了方向。在新常态下，中国对外开放的思路发生了从“对外开放”到“双向开放”的变化。未来，中国在深度融入世界经济体系的过程中，将不断探索开放型经济的新模式、新路径，在扩大开放中实现与世界经济的合作共赢。
作为对外开放的重要组成部分，国际贸易不仅能够通过比较优势的发挥促进一国经济增长与整体福利水平的提升，同时，作为利益重新分配及资源重新配置的过程，国际贸易也会对参与主体的收入分配格局产生影响。改革开放以来，中国始终奉行互利共赢的对外开放政策，积极参与全球贸易与生产体系，对外贸易取得了飞速发展，无论是进出口总额还是其在世界贸易中的地位，都得到了显著提升，逐步形成了全方位、多层次、宽领域的对外开放格局。通过深化改革与不断扩大对外开放的广度和深度，充分利用国内外两个市场、两种资源，中国经济取得了举世瞩目的成就，发展速度不断加快，经济总量持续增长，综合国力大幅提升，居民收入水平也得到显著提高。然而，在对外贸易和国民经济迅猛发展的同时，经济发展中一些不平衡、不协调的问题也逐步暴露出来，收入分配的失衡与两极分化趋势日益凸显，区域之间、城乡之间、不同群体之间收入差距呈现不断扩大的态势。目前，中国正处于经济社会发展转型的关键时期，收入差距的长期存在及不断扩大，必将给中国的长远发展与社会稳定带来严峻挑战，成为和谐社会构建过程中所面临的突出问题。“创新、协调、绿色、开放、共享”是十八届五中全会提出的五大发展理念。其中，创新是引领发展的动力；协调是经济社会持续发展的内在要求；绿色是永续发展的必要条件；开放是国家繁荣发展的必然选择；共享是全面建成小康社会的基本内涵，是中国特色社会主义的本质要求。可以看出，经济的协调发展、收入差距的缩小和开放水平的不断提高都是一国经济全面健康发展的必然要求。收入差距的不断拉大已成为当前中国促进经济协调发展、扩大对外开放所面临的重大理论和现实问题之一。
中国收入差距是伴随着贸易自由化进程的不断推进而逐步扩大的，以国际贸易的快速增长为特征的对外开放，不仅深刻改变了中国经济社会的发展进程，同时对国内的收入分配也产生了显著影响。因此，要考察和解决中国经济发展失衡与收入差距拉大的问题，必须密切结合贸易开放这一历史进程。特别是在开放水平和层级不断提升的大背景下，中国必将深度融入世界经济体系，在开放日益深化的条件下，加强对贸易开放与收入分配关系的研究，并探索如何促进国际贸易利益在不同群体间更公平的分配，进而从贸易开放角度提出缩小收入差距的具体措施，对于我国统筹对外开放与国内协调发展、在对外开放中落实科学发展观、促进国民经济持续繁荣发展，具有一定的理论和实践意义。
本书以贸易开放作为切入点，分别从区域收入差距和城乡收入差距两个层面，对贸易开放影响收入差距的具体机制进行全面、深入分析，并就贸易开放对收入差距的总体影响进行考察。在对贸易开放与收入差距关系研究的基础上，为我国在日益开放的经济环境中协调区域、城乡发展，缩小收入差距提供相应的政策建议。
本书是湖北省社会科学基金项目“贸易自由化对中国收入差距的影响：理论与实证”（2013081）的研究成果。在写作过程中借鉴和参考了许多国内外有价值的研究成果，在此，谨对各位相关专家学者表示感谢！由于研究水平有限，书中难免存在一些不足，敬请各位专家和读者批评指正！
