工会运动的战略取向
——典型模式导论
在北欧国家，工会和雇主组织通常被描述为“劳动力市场中的双方（parties）”。在英国的传统中，则称之为产业关系中的“双边（sides）”。而在许多其他欧洲国家，通常的说法是“社会伙伴（partners）”。这种用词上的差异，简明地概括了本书主要关注点。在不同的国家环境和历史时期，工会分别被看作——在其会员与干部及外部人士看来——主要是围绕通常的雇佣条款和条件而参与集体谈判的经济代理机构（economic agencies）；或者是在敌对的阶级斗争中与雇主对峙的斗争性组织
如果这样来解释“双方”这个词显得过于强烈的话，那么也可以参照产业关系的希腊用语；当“社会伙伴”一词在一些领域中被普遍采用时，“工会及其支持者却拒绝或避免使用这个词，并更倾向于使用社会对抗者（socialantagonists）或社会对手（social adversaries）”（Kravaritou，1994：132—133）。；或者是社会秩序构建中的组成部分。而在某些时候和某些地方，工会可能会同时表现出这些面貌。
