Author Description

约瑟夫·克奈尔，美国人，从事户外教育工作二十多年，是当今世界最负盛名的自然教育家。约瑟夫在户外教育中主要以游戏的方式指导人们来接近自然、体验自然，共同分享自然的乐趣。他在1979年出版了《与孩子共享自然》-书，并成立“共享自然基金会”，推广自然教育的经验与乐趣。其后，又出版了《探索大地之心》、<倾听自然》等自然教育方面的著作。

这《与孩子共享自然》的所有活动中，“一起静静地走”是效果最好的一个活动。静静地走，其含义之一是，抛开语言和文明的束缚，比如，不穿尼龙面料的鞋子和衣服，因为它们发出的声音很不自然。这项活动能给人带来平静而和谐的心境，会让我们产生天人合一的感觉，特别是在黎明和黄昏时分，效果尤其好。
动物们能感受到人的心灵，如果他们觉得气氛祥和，是不会跑开的。（鹿的这种感觉尤为灵敏。》我注意到，动物对于人类的接近并不感到惊讶，他们不会惊慌失措地逃走，而仅是后退几步，回头看看，满足他们的好奇心。能感受到与动物之间的亲密关系是件非常美妙的事情：我们本是动物世界中的一员，也是大自然的一部分。
“一起静静地走”需要敏锐的感受力和理解力，所以我仅让那些机敏的，能领会沉默中自有深意的孩子参加。在加州北部一片茂密的森林中，我和12个孩子准备进行一次共享宁静的散步。我们先分散，各自静静地呆了半个小时，以进入角色。然后，我们沿着一条古木参天、荆棘满地的小路慢慢地向一高地迸发，在那儿可以俯瞰远处的曼海姆大沙漠。鸟儿和昆虫合奏着交响乐，空气也似乎在我们的安静中凝固了。如果某个孩子有了什么发现，他会轻轻地拍拍同伴的肩膀，指指他看到了什么。从他们的眼睛里，我可以感受到这群男孩的宁静和愉悦。
