第一章心理学发展概观
关注女性心理健康，必须具有一定的心理学与心理健康的知识。对于心理学的历史发展和基本内容的宏观把握，有利于人们认识心理健康的精髓所在，有利于把握心理健康在心理学中的位置以及心理异常现象的分类、致因和治疗的理论来源与依据。
纵观人类有史以来的求知活动，大致不外两个目的：一是由了解并适应居住的环境开始，进而企图改变并控制外部物质世界，从而使自身获得生存的安全和舒适。二是由了解自身和人的关系开始，进而企图化解困惑和冲突、改变内在的精神世界，从而获得自身生活的意义和价值。数千年来人类求知活动的结果，在第一个目的之下发展了各种科学和技术；在第二个目的之下发展了不同的哲学和宗教。心理学，是从哲学中分化出来的有关人类研究自身的新的科学知识。柏拉图说，哲学开始于惊异。直到近代才从哲学怀抱里脱离出来的科学心理学也不例外，顺势而生，却在过去短短的130年中，各种各样的心理学思想与观点层出不穷，点亮了一盏盏明灯，通往人们渴望探索的内心深处。

清代女天文学家王贞仪曾以诗抒情：“足行万里书万卷，尝似雄心胜丈夫。”今日正当中华腾飞之时，时代需要造就千百万社会主义现代化建设的有用之材。
女性中蕴藏着大量的人才能量，理应有更多的巾帼英雄活跃在现代化建设的各条战线上。据近期的一份中国妇女统计资料分析，改革开放以来，我国女性参与社会活动、经济活动、政治活动的机会大大增加，学术界出现了不少女科学家、女教授，政界出现了不少女领导，企业界出现了不少女厂长、女经理，体现了新时代的女性风采。尽管如此，她们只是中国广大女性中的佼佼者，与女性在人口中所占比例极不相称。我国100名妇女劳动者中，农民75人，工人12人，商业服务员6人，干部和专业技术人员仅7人。目前女性受教育程度仍普遍较低，农村孩子中，九年义务教育中辍学的绝大部分是女孩。有的贫困落后地区，小学刚毕业的女孩就加入到打工妹行列，让她们过早地品尝人生的酸甜苦辣。女性文盲、半文盲比例较高，15岁以上妇女文盲占75 9／6，未入学的学龄儿童中女生占2／3。女性人才成长的现状不容乐观。
