拍片成了我唯一与昨天连接在一起的线索，它之所以不能中断，更多地不是因为我终有一天也会用作品给自己砌一个墓穴来，恰是能用此等方式走向墓地或火葬场是别无选择。
即使为了生存，我也无法把本不情愿、本不是、本没有的东西与自己的心血掺和在一起，意识形态的虚伪和职业责任的矛盾根本无法调和。有什么能比出卖自己的理智和才能更为痛苦的？没有的东西也要写成有；有的东西要乔装打扮胡乱拔高；最苦的莫过于还要闭着眼把它们织罗进一个冠冕堂皇、条理分明的逻辑框架之中，再涂上一层政治思想工作或者精神文明的信仰圣油。半跪半蹲吧，愿从此不再失眠，不再把无奈的思索奉献给那些该死的文字和经验材料，为生存出卖自己的诡谲。
我从来都不承认自己是个"摄影救国军"的骨干和始作俑者。但的确，"救"的意图是十分鲜明的，批判的意识是格外强烈的。批判、自省成了我驾驭摄影的内外动力。"有意识"的批判、强化了"无意识"的政治惯性，使自己很难在摄影中体验到政治之外的东西。
我有妻子，有女儿，有老人，有朋友，应有尽有，却没有一杯共话人生的烈酒。不，我的孤独并不全在于已经失去，而在于无法对应，在于我领悟了的东西常常把我深陷在领悟之中。责任心也罢，泥土人格也罢，历史过渡期的弃儿也罢，我无法也不可能仅从个人的得失中抉择现实。我生于斯、活于斯也将死于斯的这块土地上的悲哀与希望，即使全都化成绝望，也无法让我变得无情。
当我越来越明白了自由所给予我的仅是一种妥协式的权利时，夹在现实岩缝里的心境或许也同我空缺的位置一样令人自伤。
我理解了沉默的含义--淡泊、无为。但我还算聪明狡黠，也理解了它不过是一种鸵鸟式清高而已。我承认人性并不完善，但抽象的人性和阶级的人性即使是存在着，也无法与特定的、普通的人的境遇同日而语。就像自由和自我并不完全装在钱包里或者显圣在灵光雾气中。我徒劳地思索着，徒劳地行进，徒劳地在精神与现实之间来回穿梭，徒劳地把人生的路途变成了思想的历程，活得太累太累。
就像我，一个农民，一个大烟鬼的儿子，一个为了自己的身份而仍不甘心的"现代人"，只有在现时现世的自我展示中才好像对得住做人一场。给自己时时保护着最后的理由。这个理由你知道，就是信念。信念的人只有现在，没有过去，现在就是拯救，放弃了现在也无异于堕落。或许，堕落这个概念已经不是一个伦理意义的产物了。
