《做对这些事，痛风好控制》：
高尿酸血症是痛风的前兆与警讯，在多达500万人的高尿酸血症患者之中，约有10％～15％会引发痛风。因此，在了解痛风之前，我们要先知道高尿酸血症的形成与症状。
一般来说，人体会自行将体内多余的尿酸排除，让尿酸值维持在标准范围内，一旦排除尿酸的机制出现问题，本该排除的尿酸便会留在血液中，而形成高尿酸血症。因此，高尿酸血症，就是指血液中的尿酸高于一般人。至于尿酸的形成，则与我们体内的一种核酸——嘌呤有关。正常来说，人体会将尿酸借由尿液、汗液或粪便排出体外，当这种排泄机制出现问题时，就会出现高尿酸血症。
·尿酸的先驱物质——嘌呤嘌呤（purine）是构成DNA与RNA的基本材料，也是尿酸的先驱物质，而尿酸则是嘌呤经由新陈代谢后的最终产物。因此，如果体内的嘌呤越多，尿酸自然就会越多，这两者间有着密不可分的因果关系。
在人体或动、植物体内，有着许多细胞，这些细胞的构造又分为细胞核、细胞壁、细胞质三个部分，而在细胞核中，则含有核酸（包括DNA及RNA），当这些核酸经过新陈代谢、分解与合成之后，就会产生嘌呤。但是，在我们的体内的嘌呤并非全部都是由人体内的核酸所制造出来的。
人体内的嘌呤来源，可以分为以下三种：1.来自摄取的食物：既然动植物内都含有嘌呤，那么，以这些动植物为主食的我们，当然就会把嘌呤吃进体内，进而形成尿酸。而在人体内的嘌呤来源，约有1／3左右是经由摄取的食物形成。
2.由核酸分解而成：这类型的嘌呤来源，约占2／3左右。人体内每分每秒都会有许多细胞生成、分解与合成，自然就会形成许多嘌呤。
3.在人体内，有种称为ATP（三磷酸腺苷）的物质，其功能之一是提供运动、代谢时的能量，而合成ATP的主要能源是葡萄糖和脂肪酸，这又需要借由细胞的代谢与分解才能产生。根据只要有细胞分解就会产生嘌呤的原则，合成ATP也会产生嘌呤。当我们进行大量且激烈的运动时，相对的就需要大量的ATP，也会产生大量的嘌呤，而造成尿酸过高。因此，运动过后的尿酸值会比平时来得高许多。
·人体嘌呤代谢后的最终产物——尿酸当嘌呤经由肝脏代谢以后，所产生的最终物质，就被称为尿酸。
其实，尿酸是动物体内常见的物质，而多数的动物，会把尿酸再分解成其他的物质，所以我们较少发现它们患有痛风。但是，人类及灵长类等，则较少利用尿酸形成体内必需的养分或合成物，而是把它排出体外。这也是为什么，我们把食物吃进肚子里时，会同时吃入体内的，不是尿酸而是嘌呤。
既然尿酸是属于人体的废弃物，当然就需要排除，因此，当尿酸形成后，有70％～80％会经由肾脏通过尿液排出体外，而另外20％则通过汗水、粪便排出体外。当然，并不是所有尿酸一形成就会全部被排光，而是维持在一个标准值内。
·高尿酸血症的成因如果自己的尿酸值和一般人不一样，就表示体内一定有某处出了问题，才会使尿酸过高。造成高尿酸血症的原因相当复杂，有遗传、疾病、用药、饮食等，都是与高尿酸的形成有密切的关系，而这些原因大致可以分为以下两种类型：1.原发性（原因不明）：约占高尿酸血症患者的70％左右，指不是因其他疾病而引起的高尿酸血症，这类别的成因较复杂，且通常并非单一的，我们可以说，只要原因不明所引起尿酸升高，都是属于原发性高尿酸血症，常见的原因有遗传、先天性嘌呤代谢相关酵素缺乏、饮食、肥胖、年龄等因素。
2.继发性：约占高尿酸血症患者的30％左右，是指先有疾病，后因这些疾病引起的高尿酸血症，常见的疾病有白血病、细胞增殖快速的肿瘤、肾脏病等以及使用治疗疾病的药物（如利尿剂）所引起的高尿酸血症。
