Content Description

佛教历数千年，事实复杂，向无有系统之典籍，以备参考。撰佛教史，正如暗中孛物，不易有所得。于佛教义理的方面，中国有特别发达的学问，多有独自成宗、成家者。但不注重考史，对于深研义理总是有妨害的。“历史之研究，实足为教理之辅助”，此即为《中国佛教史》出发点。

Author Description

蒋维乔，1873-1958，字竹庄，中国近代哲学家、教育家、佛学家。江苏常州武进县人，7岁入私塾习读经书，20岁中秀才，继入江阴南菁书院、常州致用精舍攻读6年。早年因体弱多病，创用静坐法气功保健强身获得效果。曾任江苏省教育厅厅长，上海商务印书馆编译所编译，光华大学教授、中文系主任，诚明文学院院长等职。1949年后，任上海文史研究馆副馆长。曾出版《中国佛教史》《中国近三百年哲学史》《佛学概论》《因是子静坐法正续编》等。
