《人物志》是中国历史上一部经典的人才学著作，作者是三国时期魏国的刘劭。全书共十二篇：《九征》《体别》《流业》《材理》《材能》《利害》《接识》《英雄》《八观》《七缪》《效难》《释争》，详尽地讲述了考察、评鉴、任用人才的具体方法，包括各类人才的性情、优点与缺陷、适合的官职，以及选任人才的困难之处，还讲述了一些为人处世的良方。读《人物志》既可以提高自我修养，也可以学习选拔人才、使用人才。《人物志》内容精彩，但文字古奥难懂。

《毓老师说人物志》是毓老1988-1989年在台湾奉元书院讲解《人物志》的讲稿和2000年讲述的增补内容。毓老具有丰富的人生阅历、精深的国学修养、热切的现实关怀，在讲述《人物志》时引经据典、联系时事，思绪飞扬于古今中外，臧否人物、议论世事率性、透辟，借《人物志》讲出了中国古代思想的精髓和许多精妙的人生哲理。

Author Description

爱新觉罗·毓鋆，在台湾被尊称为毓老。毓老的百岁人生堪称传奇。他是清朝王室后裔，幼年为溥仪伴读，师从陈宝琛、王国维等学习，打下深厚的国学基础。后来追随溥仪到天津张园、静园，心心念念于“复国”大业。“满洲国”时期，毓老担任“御前行走”，负责情报工作。毓老没做汉奸，还伺机刺杀日敌、保全抗日人士。光复后，经国民政府审查，毓老证得清白。1947年，蒋介石下令将毓老监管到台湾。“复国”梦碎，毓老重拾13岁就已经背熟的四书五经，潜心研习中国传统文化。1950年代，经胡适推荐，毓老开始为美国的汉学博士讲解中国古代经典。此后，毓老先后创建“天德黉舍”“奉元书院”，受教弟子万余人，遍及学界、政界、商界，蒋勋、江丙坤等都出自毓老门下。毓老讲授的不是考据、训诂的国学，而是充满救世情怀、人生智慧的活泼泼的国学，带来思想与智慧的强烈冲击和巨大的精神力量的国学。

阮逸序

人性为之原，而情者性之流也。性发于内，情导于外，而形色随之。故邪正态度，变露莫状，溷（混乱）而莫睹其真也。惟至哲为能以材观情索性，寻流照原，而善恶之迹判矣。

圣人没（殁），诸子之言性者各胶（固）一是，以倡惑于后，是俾驰辨斗异者得肆（纵）其说，蔓衍（滋生演变）天下，故学者莫要其归，而天理几乎息矣！

予好阅古书，于史部中得刘劭《人物志》十二篇，极数万言，其述性品之上下、材质之兼偏，研幽（不显）摘微，一贯于道，若度（量）之长短，权（称）之轻重，无铢发（比喻微小之物）蔽也。大抵考诸行事，而约（束）人于中庸之域，诚（真）一家之善志也。

由魏至宋历数百载，其用尚晦（不明）而鲜（少）有知者。吁（叹词），可惜哉！矧（音shěn，况）虫篆浅技（喻微不足道的技能），无益于教者犹刊镂（刻印）以行于世。是书也，博而畅，辨而不肆，非众说之流也。王者得之为知人之龟鉴（龟可以卜吉凶，镜可以比美丑，喻借镜），士君子得之为治性修身之檠括（音qíng kuò，约束矫正），其效（效用）不为小矣，予安得不序而传之？媲（比）夫良金美玉，籯椟（存放珍宝的器具）一启，而观者必知其宝也。

我有许多感触，想讲实用之学。

你们要“养浩然气，读有用书”，不可以有功利境界，才能深入。要读切实际、能用的东西。

智慧无所谓新旧，读书贵乎求智慧。读书不易，讲书更难，辞难达意。

人物，物包含人、事、物。“志者，心之所主也”，《人物志》系记载人心之所主的事，此即人之所以能为万物之灵的本钱。人之所以为人，必得心有所主。一个人心能有所主了，则“坚刚不可夺志”，才是一个有成就的人物。

孔子“三十而立”，即立于己之志，乐于己志，而且乐此不疲，心有所乐，日有所进益。志，乃一个人心之所主，所以人心必有所务，即有所事事，不可以每天净是扯闲。孔子一生乐道，学不厌，教不倦，所以“不知老之将至云尔”（《论语·述而》）。

人生最要即“继志述事”。继志，最大的责任在“为往圣继绝学”；述事，使事业更为发展。但可非易事！知识分子的责任，在“为天地立心，为生民立命，为往圣继绝学，为万世开太平”（北宋张载语）。

人为万物之灵。如果人非万物之灵，那又如何“智周万物”（《易·系辞上传》“知周乎万物而道济天下”）？既是如此，那么智、慧、灵三者有何区别？懂得不同之处，才知道在什么时候用什么。

《人物志》一书，专评人与事。一个人有修养了，加上德、能，方能成就事功。知人者智，知人为成事之要，使“贤者在位，能者在职”（《孟子·公孙丑上》）；若在位的不是贤者，则不论团体大小，其失败，一也。按《人物志》修养、品评自己，依那个标准改造自己，必先把自己培养足够了，做事才能够知人善任。

曾文正说：“做大事业的以培植接班人为第一要义。”而欲成就事业，贵乎能知人。但是一个人在你面前一过，即能看出其人，那可非易事！有知人的经验，乃是时间的经验，并不是读一本书即可以得到的。

我教书，天天摆弄人，见人之多，虽非属上乘，但看人心里自会明白。识人的功夫很重要，试一试，觉得前人的经验还是很可靠的，百试不爽。

《人物志》是由人的情性，窥其外貌，而验其内藏。如何得书之精义？此必要下“默而识之”的功夫。你们要一边读书，一边去体验，才能够心会神通。如不懂得“默而识之”的境界，那就是读多少书，也不能用上。学任何东西，能有所成就，皆必达到心会神通的境界。口耳的作用不重要，真能用乃是“默”的功夫。自修的功夫比什么都重要。
