1.1 为何学iPhone应用开发
2008年8月，SUN的一位工程师与妻子不得不为钱而伤透脑筋：房贷到期却无力偿付，孩子的医疗费用不断增加，更让他们感到绝望的是SUN又冻结了当年度的员工分红。他们迫于现实开始出售自己的房子，并不得不寻找新工作。突然，一篇以前读过的文章闯入工程师的脑海：有人因为写了一个iPhone电玩应用程序而很快赚到了钱。
现年30岁的工程师从小喜欢玩射击电玩，他决定试试编写电玩应用。于是，一套iShoot(图1—1)的应用于10月19日正式出现在苹果应用商店里。第一天，每套4．99美元的iShoot就让他赚到了1000美元。2009年1月，他又推出了一个免费版本，刺激付费版本的销售量，结果大获成功，许多人都升级为付费版本。iShoot Lite被下载的次数超过了200万次，并且创造了在1月11日一天卖出1.7万套的最高纪录，当天这位工程师的收入就达到了3．.5万美元。

本书作者在Apple推出iPhone SDK和App Store模式后，即开始面向iPhone和iPod touch开发游戏与应用，已经完成了包括FarmLand、iHtorse、iCheese、BeerDuel、MagicF1uid、iDomino、Orient Brush、农家乐、和谐动车、地铁上海等在内的多款游戏，并都已成功上传到了.Appstore平台上销售。
2009年2月18日，本书作者发布了其开发的一款免费游戏（多米诺骨牌欣赏版，iDomino Lite），第11天下载量突破1万次／日。到4月12日，全球下载量超过45万次，并且在法国、瑞士、比利时、希腊、匈牙利、意大利、挪威、土耳其、卢森堡、以色列、捷克、波兰等国家的App store中，iDomino Lite在免费排名榜中位居前10名。
